Viva carried 2.197 million passengers in September 2026, representing a 7.1% decline compared with the same month in 2025, when it transported 2.364 million travelers. According to preliminary traffic results released by the Mexican airline, the decrease came amid capacity adjustments and softer seasonal demand. Domestic traffic reached 1.969 million passengers, down 7.6% year-on-year, while the international segment recorded 228,000 travelers, a 2.2% decrease.
Total capacity, measured in available seat miles (ASM), fell 11% compared with September last year. Domestic operations recorded an 11.2% reduction, while international capacity declined 9.8%. However, the load factor improved to 89.4%, up from 86.1% in September 2025. The domestic load factor reached 90.6%, an increase of 2.8 percentage points, while international routes posted an 83.5% load factor, up 5.4 percentage points. Meanwhile, revenue passenger miles (RPM) decreased 7.7% year-on-year.
Juan Carlos Zuazua, Viva’s CEO, explained that the company continues to adjust its capacity to demand conditions while managing higher fuel costs and aircraft groundings associated with Pratt & Whitney engines.
Between January and September 2026, Viva carried 21.77 million passengers, down 1.6% compared with the same period in 2025. During the first nine months of the year, the cumulative load factor stood at 86.5%, compared with 86.3% a year earlier, while total capacity declined 4.5%.
