American Airlines registra ingresos récord de US$ 16.300 millones en el tercer trimestre de 2026

American Airlines Group reported its financial results for the third quarter of 2026, posting record revenue of US$16.3 billion, a 19.3% increase compared with the same period last year. Although the company exceeded the upper end of its guidance, higher fuel prices weighed on profitability, resulting in both reported and adjusted losses.

The airline posted a net loss of US$269 million, equivalent to US$0.41 per diluted share. On an adjusted basis, the loss was US$182 million, or US$0.28 per share. The latter result was just US$71 million below the adjusted loss recorded in the third quarter of 2025, despite fuel expense increasing by US$1.9 billion, or 67.5%, year over year.

Revenue growth was supported by strong performance across all regions and cabin classes. Premium-cabin revenue increased 22.9%, while Main Cabin revenue rose 19.5%. International passenger unit revenue increased 16.4%, led by Latin America, where it climbed 21.1%. In the U.S. domestic market, passenger unit revenue increased 13.6%.

Corporate travel also continued to perform strongly. Revenue from managed corporate customers increased 27.6%, marking the sixth consecutive quarter of double-digit growth. In addition, enrollment in the AAdvantage loyalty program increased 27.4% year over year.

Investments in Connectivity, Fleet and Premium Products

American Airlines continues to advance its commercial strategy through investments in the passenger experience, network expansion, premium products and customer loyalty. The airline plans to install high-speed Starlink connectivity on more than 1,000 aircraft across its mainline fleet, expanding the program from the more than 500 aircraft initially announced.

The carrier will also continue modernizing its airport lounges, adding seatback entertainment to narrowbody aircraft and expanding its premium cabins. These products currently generate approximately half of the airline’s passenger revenue, despite accounting for roughly 30% of its seats. Through its interior-renewal program, American expects to increase that share to 40% over the coming years.

In terms of efficiency, American expects to achieve approximately US$1 billion in annualized savings by the end of 2026, along with more than US$900 million in working-capital improvements, driven by restructuring, technology and automation initiatives.

Higher Fuel Costs and Outlook for the Remainder of the Year

The main challenge remains fuel costs. During the third quarter, American paid an average of US$3.85 per gallon. For the fourth quarter, based on the October 19 pricing curve, the airline expects an average price of approximately US$4.70 per gallon, nearly twice the level recorded during the same period in 2025.
