As an official sponsor of the Flower Festival, Avianca announced that it will operate more than 400 weekly flights to Medellín throughout August to accommodate the increase in travel demand generated by one of Colombia’s most important cultural events. The carrier also noted that it currently connects Medellín with more than 25 domestic and international destinations, reinforcing the city’s role as one of the key hubs within its network.
The airline’s operational results reflect that continued growth. During 2025, Avianca transported more than seven million passengers on over 43,000 flights to and from Medellín, the highest annual volume ever recorded by the airline in the city. The positive trend has continued into 2026, with more than three million passengers carried on over 22,000 flights during the first half of the year, underscoring the importance of the Antioquia market to the airline’s overall operations.
“Throughout August, we will operate more than 400 weekly flights to Medellín, strengthening connectivity, supporting tourism, and contributing to the economic dynamism of a region that has played a fundamental role in our company’s history,” said Ángela María Orozco, Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Avianca.
At the same time, the airline highlighted the role of Avianca Cargo as one of the leading logistics operators serving Colombia’s flower industry. According to the company, approximately 90% of the air exports departing from José María Córdova International Airport consist of flowers, with Avianca Cargo holding an estimated 60% market share, making it the leading cargo airline in Medellín.
