Iberia incorpora a ITOCHU como socio minoritario de IAG Engine Tech

Iberia Partners with Japan’s ITOCHU Corporation as Minority Stakeholder in IAG Engine Tech. Spanish carrier Iberia has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Japanese conglomerate ITOCHU Corporation, granting the group a minority equity stake in IAG Engine Tech (IET), the dedicated subsidiary established in 2026 to consolidate and expand International Airlines Group‘s (IAG) commercial aircraft engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations. Under the ownership framework, IAG will maintain majority control through Iberia, structuring the business unit to scale operational output, expand global reach, and capture specialized third-party airline maintenance contracts outside group carriers.

IAG Engine Tech is slated to begin formal operations in early 2027, continuing and expanding the specialized capabilities built by Iberia Maintenance. The standalone entity will leverage significant technical capabilities supported by its CFM LEAP Premier MRO licensing agreement, enabling broad repair scope for next-generation turbofan engines that power modern narrowbody aircraft fleets. The investment from ITOCHU injects institutional investment capital, industrial know-how, and commercial leverage across Asia-Pacific and global markets, building on established partnerships between the Japanese company and IAG in commercial aircraft leasing.

Marco Sansavini, Chairman and CEO of Iberia, underlined that the transaction is an integral pillar in transforming the airline’s technical division and executes key targets within its Flight Plan 2030 strategic roadmap. Sansavini stated that ITOCHU’s participation will accelerate IAG Engine Tech’s potential in a structurally growing engine services sector. The formal entry of the Japanese conglomerate into the capital structure is expected in early 2027, subject to required regulatory approvals and formal closing conditions.
