SATENA Strengthens Medellín as a Key Hub in Colombia

SATENA Strengthens Medellín as a Key Hub in Colombia. The state-owned airline SATENA continues to consolidate Medellín as one of its main operational hubs in Colombia, supported by a network that connects regions where air travel is a necessity rather than an option. From Olaya Herrera Airport, the airline has expanded its capacity to serve intermediate and remote areas, where air connectivity is essential for economic and social development. In this context, SATENA currently operates more than 18 destinations, including Acandí, Apartadó, Bahía Solano, Quibdó, Nuquí, Montelíbano, Tolú, Ocaña, Valledupar, Yopal, Paipa, Barranquilla, Condoto, El Bagre, Caucasia, Mompox, San Gil, and Bogotá.

In this sense, Medellín has become a strategic محور within the airline’s network, with more than 300 weekly frequencies ensuring service continuity and improved connection times. This level of operation not only meets mobility demand but also facilitates access to essential services and promotes commercial exchange in regions with limited ground infrastructure. In addition, the base includes a specialized hangar for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) processes, as well as a Contact Center that centralizes customer service, integrating operational and service capabilities in a single strategic location.

Furthermore, Medellín serves as the main operational base for De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft, designed to operate in challenging conditions and on short runways. As part of its expansion plan, SATENA aims to end 2026 with a fleet of eight Twin Otter aircraft, complementing its existing fleet of ATR 42 and 72, as well as ERJ 145 aircraft. Consequently, the airline strengthens its ability to serve remote regions, offering more than 60,000 seats from this hub. Ultimately, the consolidation of Medellín as a hub highlights SATENA’s key role in territorial integration and in reducing connectivity gaps across Colombia.
