Qantas to Launch Non-Stop Sydney–London Flights in 2027. Qantas has announced that it will begin operating the world’s first non-stop flights between Sydney and London from October 2027, marking a historic milestone in global aviation. The new service, part of the airline’s Project Sunrise initiative, will connect Australia’s east coast directly with the United Kingdom for the first time, eliminating the need for any stopovers and reducing travel time by up to four hours compared to current one-stop services.

The announcement coincides with the unveiling of Qantas’ first Airbus A350-1000ULR at Airbus’ production facility in Toulouse, France. The aircraft has been specially designed for ultra-long-haul operations and features an additional 20,000-liter fuel tank, enabling flights of more than 16,000 kilometers and up to 22 hours non-stop. Qantas plans to receive a total of 12 A350-1000ULR aircraft, each configured with 238 seats across four cabin classes. Tickets for the inaugural Sydney–London flights are expected to go on sale in February 2027.

Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson described the project as one of the most significant achievements in the airline’s 105-year history. She noted that when Qantas first launched the famous Kangaroo Route in 1947, passengers traveled between Australia and London in four days with seven intermediate stops. The new service removes the final remaining stop, creating a seamless journey between the two cities. The airline also emphasized that the aircraft’s cabin and onboard experience have been specifically designed to reduce jet lag and improve passenger comfort during ultra-long-haul travel. Following the launch of Sydney–London services, Qantas plans to expand Project Sunrise with non-stop flights between Sydney and New York, further strengthening Australia’s direct connections with major global destinations
