The service was introduced to connect Neuquén with LATAM’s main hub in Santiago, providing passengers with seamless access to destinations across South America, North America, Europe, and Oceania. In addition to boosting tourism between Chile and Argentina, the route was designed to serve growing corporate demand linked to the development of Argentina’s Vaca Muerta energy region. During its short period of operation, the route was served by Airbus A320 aircraft configured with 172 seats, including 16 Premium Economy and 156 Economy seats.

LATAM has not officially disclosed the reasons behind the suspension. However, the decision highlights the challenges new international routes face in achieving sustainable passenger demand. With the route’s cancellation, Neuquén will once again lose its direct air connection to Chile operated by LATAM, as the airline continues focusing its growth on other, more established markets in Argentina. The Santiago–Neuquén service now ranks among the shortest-lived international routes recently launched by the airline in South America.
