Avianca files for Cartagena–New York route. Avianca has formally applied to expand its international operating permit by adding a new route between Cartagena (CTG) and New York (JFK), with up to seven weekly frequencies. The request, submitted on January 8, 2026, aims to strengthen air connectivity between Colombia and the United States, one of the most important markets for passenger, cargo, and mail transport. The airline plans to operate the route using Airbus A319, A320, and A320neo aircraft, ensuring operational efficiency and the right capacity to meet projected demand.

Moreover, the proposal falls under third and fourth freedom traffic rights, allowing Avianca to transport passengers and cargo between both countries. In line with regulatory requirements, the Unidad Administrativa Especial de Aeronáutica Civil has published the application for a three-day public review period, ensuring transparency and allowing stakeholders to assess the proposal. This process promotes fair competition and supports the development of international air services.
