According to Copa Airlines, the design reflects the creativity and passion of the Panamanian people. The winning concept emerged from the “El Avión de la Sele” contest launched in November 2025, which invited citizens to contribute their artistic vision. Created by Ernesto de León and Henry Katz, the selected design stood out among nearly 700 submissions. The aircraft’s vibrant red livery symbolizes the energy of Panama’s supporters and incorporates references to iconic moments in the country’s football history, including the decisive goal by Román Torres that secured Panama’s first World Cup qualification, as well as a tribute to Luis Tejada, remembered as a symbol of talent and determination.

The visual composition also features a dynamic wave representing the “Marea Roja,” along with the phrase “¡Vamos Panamá!” displayed across the fuselage, capturing the collective chant of fans nationwide. Meanwhile, the word “Panamá” appears prominently on the underside of the aircraft, ensuring visibility from the ground. The livery was painted at Boeing’s facilities in the United States, and the aircraft is expected to operate across Copa Airlines’ extensive network of 88 destinations in 32 countries throughout the Americas. Beyond transporting the national team, this aircraft will serve as a flying symbol of national pride, promoting Panama’s identity, culture, and passion for football across the continent.
