The move aligns with Alaska Accelerate, Alaska Air Group‘s strategic initiative to evolve into a global carrier. Andrew Harrison, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Alaska Airlines, highlighted the expansion as a key milestone in building a stronger global airline. Executives including Julio Rodríguez Contreras, Chief Commercial Strategy Officer at IAG, and Ross Leggett, Senior Vice President at Japan Airlines, welcomed Alaska‘s intent to join both partnerships.
This initiative comes as Alaska Airlines accelerates its international expansion, having launched transatlantic routes from Seattle to Rome, London, and Reykjavik in 2026. The airline’s long-term strategy aims to serve at least 15 intercontinental long-haul destinations by 2030, reinforcing its integration within the oneworld alliance and the AAdvantage program.
