Biman Bangladesh Airlines Orders 10 Airbus Aircraft to Drive Global Network Expansion. Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the national flag carrier of Bangladesh, has finalized a firm purchase agreement for 10 new-generation Airbus aircraft to spearhead its fleet modernization initiative and long-term international expansion strategy. The firm order comprises four widebody Airbus A350-900 jetliners and six single-aisle Airbus A321neo aircraft. The fleet acquisition will enable the airline to optimize its operational capacity and hub connectivity out of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

The entry of these modern aircraft will significantly scale up the state-owned airline’s long-haul and regional route map. Company leadership plans to deploy the widebody A350-900 fleet to launch long-anticipated non-stop flights to North America, while simultaneously adding seat capacity and frequency density along established commercial corridors across Europe and the Middle East. Concurrently, the single-aisle A321neo jetliners will serve regional and medium-haul routes, offering greater operational flexibility across high-demand markets.
The strategic fleet investment comes in response to rapid growth in air passenger traffic across Bangladesh, supported by robust national economic performance, expanding tourism infrastructure, and strong travel demand from the extensive Bangladeshi diaspora living abroad. Additionally, the carrier aims to capture expanding international trade opportunities by increasing belly-hold cargo capacity across its passenger network.

Rumee A. Hossain, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Biman Bangladesh Airlines, emphasized that Bangladesh represents a dynamic nation of 200 million people backed by a strong economy and a fast-growing travel sector. Meanwhile, Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales at Airbus Commercial Aircraft, noted that combining the long-range capability of the A350-900—featuring an operational range of up to 9,700 nautical miles—with the efficiency of the A321neo, which delivers at least a 20% reduction in fuel burn and CO₂ emissions, provides the airline with an adaptable platform to enter new competitive global markets.
