ITA Airways Launches First Nonstop Rome–Houston Flight, Expanding U.S. Network

ITA Airways Launches First Nonstop Rome–Houston Flight, Expanding U.S. Network. ITA Airways has launched its first-ever nonstop service between Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport and George Bush Intercontinental Airport, creating a direct link between Italy and one of the United States’ most important economic centers. This new route expands the airline’s North American network to nine destinations and strengthens its presence in the U.S., its most strategic market outside Italy. The service also addresses a longstanding gap in transatlantic connectivity, as Houston—one of the country’s largest cities and a global energy hub—previously lacked nonstop flights to Rome.

In this context, Joerg Eberhart emphasized that Houston represents a key addition to the airline’s long-haul network and future growth strategy. The route is expected to support business, tourism, and visiting friends and relatives (VFR) traffic between the two regions. Initially operating three weekly frequencies and increasing to five from June 1, 2026, the service is flown by next-generation Airbus A330-900 aircraft. Furthermore, it enables seamless onward connections to multiple destinations across Italy and Europe via Rome and Milan, enhancing the airline’s role as a connector between continents.

Meanwhile, officials including Tilman J. Fertitta and John Whitmire highlighted the broader economic and cultural significance of the route. The new connection is expected to boost trade, tourism, and investment flows, while strengthening ties between Italy and the United States. Ultimately, this launch reinforces ITA Airways’ position as a key player in the transatlantic market and underscores its mission to promote Italian culture, hospitality, and “Made in Italy” excellence as part of the travel experience.
