The airline said the preventive measures are intended to maintain control of its route network and avoid situations in which passengers and aircraft become stranded across multiple airports should negotiations fail to produce an agreement.

The carrier confirmed that discussions with the union remain ongoing and expressed its commitment to reaching a resolution that would allow normal operations to resume as quickly as possible. In the meantime, WestJet has advised passengers to check the status of their flights before traveling to the airport and to monitor the airline’s official communication channels for updates regarding the negotiations and any changes to the flight schedule.
WestJet also clarified that the preventive cancellations do not affect flights operated by WestJet Encore using De Havilland Dash 8-400 (Q400) aircraft, nor services operated by partner airlines under codeshare agreements. These flights are expected to continue operating as scheduled while negotiations with the cabin crew union progress.
