AirBaltic Plans Up to 700 Job Cuts Across Baltic Bases. Latvian national carrier airBaltic has launched an organizational restructuring plan that could affect between 500 and 700 positions across its operational hubs in Riga (Latvia), Vilnius (Lithuania), and Tallinn (Estonia). The cost-cutting initiative aims to align the airline’s overhead with its updated business scope.

The company currently employs around 3,000 staff members across the Baltic region. Final workforce numbers will depend on discussions with labor unions regarding reduced working hours for flight crews and pilots. airBaltic expects to finalize its new management structure by mid-October 2026.

As part of the operational overhaul, the carrier will downsize its Airbus A220-300 fleet while increasing year-round reliance on ACMI wet-lease agreements. Chief Executive Officer Erno Hildén stated that formal notifications have been submitted to Latvia’s State Employment Agency. Current flight schedules remain unchanged throughout the restructuring process.
