Copa Airlines Resumes Flight Operations Following the Reopening of Tocumen International Airport. Panamanian flag carrier Copa Airlines has officially reactivated its flight operations at Tocumen International Airport (PTY) in Panama City following the reopening of the primary aviation facility after earthquakes struck Panama on October 9, 2026. The airline is working closely with civil aviation authorities to restore scheduled air services and re-establish global connectivity through its primary international hub, known as the Hub of the Americas.

As part of its initial recovery phase, Copa Airlines is prioritizing the repositioning and return of aircraft that were forced to divert to alternate regional airports during the seismic disruption. These alternate destinations included several key international airports across neighboring Colombia, such as San Andrés, Cartagena, Barranquilla, Santa Marta, Cali, Rionegro, and Montería. The airline cautioned travelers that the complex realignment of aircraft, flight crews, and ground resources across its regional route network may result in lingering flight delays and schedule modifications over the coming hours.
To accommodate passengers affected by the operational pause, Copa Airlines has implemented a flexible commercial waiver policy. The policy applies to tickets issued on or before October 9, 2026, for travel originally scheduled on October 9 or October 10, 2026, across any route operated by the airline. Passengers are permitted to change their travel dates without incurring change fees or fare difference charges, with rescheduled travel permitted up to October 31, 2026. Passengers can manage these booking modifications directly online using the “My Trips” section on copa.com.

Alternatively, travelers who choose not to fly can cancel their itineraries and receive a travel credit equivalent to the full value of their ticket for future flight purchases, which must be requested through the airline’s call center. Copa Airlines strongly advises all passengers to check their current flight status online before departing for the airport and expressed its appreciation for passenger patience as operational teams work to fully restore normal flight schedules across its international network.
