World Fuel Services impulsa la sostenibilidad y la última milla en la aviación latinoamericana

World Fuel Services Strengthens Last-Mile Logistics and Sustainable Aviation Fuel Supply in Latin America. During strategic aviation industry summits, leadership executives from World Fuel Services highlighted the company’s central position within global aviation energy supply chains and reaffirmed their commercial commitment to driving decarbonization throughout Latin America. The corporate presentation was led by Claudia Tovar, Commercial Vice President for Latin America, and Juan Zaraya, Regional Commercial Director, who outlined the company’s expansive footprint. Backed by 40 years of market presence and public stock listing, the global logistics provider currently manages fueling operations across roughly 4,000 airports and 2,000 marine ports worldwide.

A focal point of the presentation was the company’s expertise in orchestrating complex “last-mile” airport fueling operations. This specialized process encompasses local wholesale purchasing, overseas product importation, bulk terminal storage, ground transport, and secure into-plane delivery directly at the aircraft stand. Alongside conventional commercial jet fuel logistics, the company continues to accelerate regional energy transition programs through the commercialization of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This decarbonization roadmap was underscored earlier this year through milestone commercial flights operated in technical partnership with LATAM Airlines and Colombian state-run energy group Ecopetrol.

Evaluating regional adoption timelines, the executives observed that while Europe and the United States maintain a global lead in production capacity, government incentives, and dedicated distribution pipelines, Colombia and Brazil have emerged as Latin America’s most progressive markets in SAF readiness. Nevertheless, they cautioned that fragmented regulatory policies, an absence of unified certification standards, and localized transport bottlenecks continue to slow wider commercial implementation across neighboring South American and Central American air corridors.

In an operating environment characterized by volatile global oil prices and persistent inflationary pressures on airline balance sheets, World Fuel Services is positioning itself as an end-to-end commercial ally capable of pairing physical fuel supply reliability with structured financing mechanisms and credit solutions. The company reiterated that realizing long-term net-zero carbon targets across the aviation ecosystem will require cohesive, trilateral coordination among airport authorities, commercial carriers, and energy providers to safeguard regional passenger connectivity while advancing environmental sustainability.
