Enex Inaugurates Next-Generation Aviation Fuel Facility at Punta Arenas Airport. Energy distributor Enex has inaugurated a modern aviation fuel storage and distribution facility at Presidente Carlos Ibáñez del Campo International Airport (PUQ) in Punta Arenas, located in Chile’s Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica Region. The commissioning of this critical infrastructure marks an operational milestone in safeguarding energy continuity and regional sovereignty across Southern Patagonia, where commercial aviation is essential for regional mobility, economic integration, and intercontinental polar links.

Enex has held the fueling concession at the airport since late 2021 under a 30-year contract. The new fuel farm was engineered to significantly expand operational storage capacity, streamline throughput, and introduce advanced automation into aircraft fueling procedures. The turnkey facility encompasses modern reception manifolds, bulk storage, quality verification laboratories, and dedicated distribution logistics, supported by a newly deployed fleet of heavy-duty into-plane refueller trucks compliant with stringent international aviation safety and environmental benchmarks.

Nicolás Correa, Chief Executive Officer of Enex, emphasized that reliable air connectivity is a fundamental prerequisite for the development and well-being of the Magallanes community. Correa noted that the long-term investment reinforces the company’s commitment to strategic national infrastructure, providing resilient fuel supply lines in an extreme geographical environment characterized by high winds and harsh sub-Antarctic operating conditions.

Beyond bolstering scheduled passenger flights and expanding seasonal tourism throughout the Patagonian region, the upgraded facility strengthens Punta Arenas‘ role as the primary continental gateway and logistical air bridge to Antarctica. The airport provides round-the-clock fueling support for scientific transport flights, military airlift missions, and international Antarctic research programs. The project reinforces Enex‘s commercial aviation portfolio across Chile, complementing its active fueling networks at major hubs including Santiago (SCL), Calama (CJC), and Antofagasta (ANF) alongside major long-term airline fuel supply contracts.
