The new connection becomes part of a broader expansion of international air services from Argentina’s interior provinces under the Government’s Open Skies policy. With the addition of Rosario–Punta Cana, a total of 15 new international routes from provincial airports have been introduced during the current administration. Authorities highlighted that these new services are helping to strengthen tourism, boost regional economies, and provide passengers with more direct travel options without the need to connect through Buenos Aires.

The rapid growth of international operations from provincial airports is also reflected in traffic and frequency figures. International weekly frequencies from the interior of Argentina increased from 85 in 2023 to 170 by May 2026. Rosario alone expanded from 10 weekly international frequencies in late 2023 to 35 weekly frequencies by June 2026, adding routes such as Lima and Punta Cana. Meanwhile, Mendoza also recorded significant growth and could soon gain direct flights to Madrid operated by Air Europa. During the first four months of 2026, more than 1 million passengers traveled directly between Argentine provinces and international destinations, representing strong year-over-year growth and highlighting the continued expansion of the country’s federal air connectivity strategy.
