Panama Launches Free 10-Day Medical and Emergency Insurance Scheme for Foreign Tourists. Panama is reinforcing its position as an international tourism hub with the launch of Seguro al Turista (Tourist Insurance), a new state-funded benefit providing free insurance coverage to foreign visitors and Panamanian citizens residing abroad who legally enter the country.
Funded by the Panamanian State through the Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP), the policy provides coverage during the visitor’s first 10 days of stay. The insurance is automatically activated upon receiving the official entry stamp at immigration, requiring no extra paperwork, registration, or additional fees from travelers.

Policy Scope, Funding, and Medical Coverage
- ✈ Budget and Underwriting: The Cabinet Council approved a credit of up to B/. 3.5 million USD for the ATP to finance the policy, with administration and underwriting awarded to Compañía Internacional de Seguros, S.A.
- ✈ Medical Benefits: Includes medical and hospital care for accidents or non-preexisting conditions, emergency medical care, prescription medications, emergency dental treatment, medical transfers, evacuations, and international repatriation.
- ✈ Legal and Travel Assistance: Covers accidental death, administrative legal assistance following an accident, and emergency support for lost or stolen travel documents.
- ✈ Eligibility and Uniformity: Available to eligible visitors up to 86 years of age across the entire national territory. Unlike traditional travel insurance options, the program offers a single standardized policy ensuring equal coverage for all qualifying tourists during their first ten days in Panama.

“We want everyone who visits Panama to feel supported and secure from the moment they arrive in the country,” stated Gloria De León, Minister of Tourism of Panama.
She highlighted that international visitors entering through participating airports will enjoy free medical coverage during their initial ten days as part of a national strategy aimed at delivering a safer, more reliable travel experience while driving global competitiveness.
