Avianca offers support to passengers affected by Spirit Airlines disruption. In response to the operational disruption affecting Spirit Airlines, Avianca announced that it is making its route network and available seats accessible to help mitigate the impact on affected passengers and support continuity of travel plans across the region.
The airline stated that this measure is not unprecedented. In previous industry crises involving the suspension of operations by other carriers, Avianca activated contingency programs that helped relocate hundreds of thousands of passengers. According to the company, these actions reinforce its commitment to maintaining stability and reliability within the Latin American air transport system, particularly during periods of market disruption.

As part of the current support plan, Avianca is offering affected passengers the possibility of returning on existing routes without paying an additional air fare, provided they already completed the outbound segment and hold a valid return ticket originally issued by Spirit Airlines for travel between May 2 and May 16, 2026. Re-accommodation will be subject to availability and operational conditions, with passengers able to present themselves at the airport on the day of travel or up to one day in advance.

The airline emphasized that reassignments will be carried out based on seat availability and order of arrival. However, passengers will still be responsible for taxes, airport fees, administrative charges, and any mandatory costs established by local authorities. Avianca also called on regulators to strengthen preventive oversight mechanisms, arguing that early intervention is essential to avoid financial instability among carriers translating into sudden service disruptions that affect passenger confidence and regional connectivity.
