Brazilian carrier GOL Linhas Aéreas continues to expand its international network in South America with the launch of a new nonstop route connecting Rio de Janeiro and Salta, Argentina. Starting December 17, 2026, the airline will operate two weekly flights between Rio de Janeiro/Galeão International Airport and Salta’s Martín Miguel de Güemes International Airport. The new service marks the first direct connection in history between the two destinations and further strengthens GOL’s position as a leading airline in the Brazil-Argentina market.

The new route is part of GOL’s strategy to reinforce Rio de Janeiro as an important international hub in South America. In addition, the service will improve connectivity for travelers seeking integrated routes across the continent while boosting tourism and business opportunities between Brazil and Argentina. Salta, located in northwestern Argentina, is widely recognized for its colonial architecture, Andean culture, and breathtaking mountain landscapes. At the same time, the province has become one of Argentina’s top wine tourism destinations, featuring more than 30 wineries open to visitors and a renowned Wine Route that includes Cafayate and Cachi.

According to GOL executives and local authorities, the route is expected to generate economic growth, attract new investments, and create tourism-related jobs in the region. Furthermore, passengers traveling from Salta will gain access to 26 domestic destinations across Brazil through GOL’s network at RIOgaleão, including São Paulo, Salvador, Recife, Fortaleza, and Florianópolis. The flights will be operated with Boeing 737 aircraft configured for 176 passengers and featuring GOL Premium Economy service on international flights. With this announcement, GOL not only expands its South American footprint but also strengthens cultural and tourism ties between Brazil and Argentina while opening new travel opportunities for both markets.
