According to data from IATI Seguros, the average length of international trips by Colombians has increased to 18 days, compared with the typical 12 to 14 days seen in previous years.
This shift reflects a growing preference for spending more time in each destination rather than visiting as many cities as possible. Travelers are increasingly seeking to immerse themselves in local culture, gastronomy, and attractions through deeper and more authentic experiences.

The trend aligns with the global concept of “travel maxxing,” which encourages travelers to maximize each journey through multi-destination itineraries and more comprehensive travel experiences. According to the company, Colombians typically spend between US$1,500 and US$3,000 on long-haul international trips, with an average daily budget of around US$120.
Most travel expenses are allocated to airfare, accommodation, and dining, while Spain, the United States, Mexico, France, and Argentina remain the most popular destinations thanks to their strong connectivity and diverse tourism offerings.

Although Colombian travelers are planning flights and accommodations further in advance, travel insurance is still commonly purchased close to the departure date. IATI Seguros reports that international flights are generally booked 60 to 90 days before departure, while travel insurance is purchased, on average, only 15 days before the trip.
The company emphasizes that longer, multi-destination journeys require comprehensive planning, including travel insurance, to provide protection against potential medical or logistical issues from the very beginning.
