Colombia handled over 28 million passengers during the first half of 2026, representing a 6.0% increase compared to the same period in 2025 and marking the highest traffic volume recorded since 2014. According to a recent bulletin published by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the domestic market accounted for 16.3 million passengers, a 6.8% rise from the 15.3 million registered a year prior. Meanwhile, international passenger traffic reached 12.4 million, reflecting a solid 4.9% year-over-year growth.

Within the domestic network, San Andrés emerged as the fastest-growing destination with a 26.2% surge, climbing from 520,000 to 657,000 passengers. Montería ranked second with a 17.0% capacity expansion, while Barranquilla recorded a 14.0% increase. The major hubs of Cali, Cartagena, Bogotá, Rionegro, and Santa Marta concentrated 70.9% of all domestic traffic, underscoring the critical role these primary gateways play in the nation’s air connectivity. In the international segment, Argentina stood out as the fastest-growing destination from Colombia during the first semester, posting a 29.3% passenger increase as numbers rose from 183,000 to 237,000 travelers.

Brazil followed in second place for international growth with a 19.1% jump, reaching a total of 356,000 passengers. Among the most frequented international markets overall, the United States maintained its position as the absolute leading destination with over 1.6 million passengers, followed by Spain with over 637,000, and Mexico with more than 580,000. Following these results, IATA highlighted that this sustained surge in demand poses new challenges for Colombian airport infrastructure. The organization emphasized the urgent need to expand terminal capacity and maintain competitive market conditions to support the ongoing growth of air connectivity and prevent bottlenecks that could restrict the sector’s future development.
