Iberia and Juegaterapia Transform Pediatric MRI Room at Madrid’s La Paz Hospital into an Aviation Experience. Iberia, in partnership with the Fundación Juegaterapia, has transformed the pediatric MRI suite at the Hospital Universitario La Paz in Madrid into an aviation and travel-themed space. The initiative aims to help young patients approach medical scans in a calmer, more engaging, and child-friendly environment.

Before starting the exam, each child steps into the role of a traveler, selecting a destination using an interactive wheel featuring ten cities: Miami, Paris, Buenos Aires, New York, Tokyo, Doha, Sofia, Bogota, Madrid, and London. The nursing staff then prepares a personalized boarding pass. During the scan, the MRI machine symbolically becomes an aircraft taking them on a journey, with the machine’s distinctive noises reimagined as the sound of jet engines.
The decor features airplane-shaped lighting, simulated commercial cabin windows, cuckoo clocks displaying time zones across Iberia‘s global network, and a world map decorating the medical control station. The concept leverages play and imagination to reimagine a clinical setting into an interactive story.
“At Iberia, we know that traveling has the power to spark joy and imagination. With this project, we wanted to bring a small piece of that journey to children facing medical procedures,” explained Sonia Sánchez, Director of Communication, Social Impact, and Institutional Relations at Iberia.
Esther Pereira, Director of Humanization at Fundación Juegaterapia, emphasized that turning an MRI into an adventure enables children to see themselves as story heroes rather than just patients.

This project aligns with Juegaterapia‘s broader hospital humanization efforts. Furthermore, as part of their long-standing partnership, Iberia flew 30 children from Juegaterapia to Disney Adventure World last July in collaboration with Disney Destinations.
