Visit Buenos Aires and Aerolíneas Argentinas Launch “Stopover Buenos Aires” to Convert Transit Passengers into Tourists. Visit Buenos Aires and flag carrier Aerolíneas Argentinas have introduced “Stopover Buenos Aires”, a joint tourism initiative aimed at converting international layover traffic into short-term city stays in Buenos Aires (Argentina). The program allows connecting passengers to extend their itineraries with a 24, 48, or 72-hour stopover, offering exclusive perks and discounts on accommodation, dining, cultural experiences, and local transportation.

Under the agreement, Aerolíneas Argentinas—the main carrier operating out of the city’s aviation hubs—will allow passengers to seamlessly add a stopover through a dedicated digital platform. Valentín Díaz Gilligan, President of Visit Buenos Aires and the City Tourism Board, emphasized that the initiative seeks to leverage the city’s role as a major regional air hub by providing transiting passengers with compelling incentives to step outside the airport. Karina Perticone, Executive Director of Visit Buenos Aires, highlighted the user-friendly design of the tool, structured to benefit both visitors and local service providers.

The initiative is strongly supported by key private-sector stakeholders, including the Hotel Tourism Association of Buenos Aires (AHT) and the Association of Hotels, Restaurants, Confectioneries, and Cafes (AHRCC). Both organizations coordinated special rates and promotional packages to drive hotel room nights and boost restaurant spending, maximizing the economic impact of short-stay visitors across the capital.
