In this context, CEO Pedro Heilbron emphasized that the agreement will enhance connectivity through Panama’s Hub of the Americas®. Currently, the airline serves 88 destinations in 32 countries and expects steady passenger growth, increasing from an estimated 20.9 million travelers in 2026 to more than 27 million by the end of the decade. Furthermore, the deal provides flexibility to select between different variants of the 737 MAX family—including MAX 8, MAX 9, and MAX 10—allowing Copa to align fleet composition with demand and optimize operational efficiency.

Moreover, the economic impact of this expansion is expected to be significant. The fleet growth will generate over 2,100 new direct jobs in Panama within the next four years, with thousands more anticipated in the longer term. Additionally, increased capacity will support tourism initiatives such as the Panama Stopover program, which is projected to reach 250,000 visitors in 2026. Ultimately, this investment reinforces Copa Airlines’ position as a key player in regional connectivity while strengthening Panama’s role as a strategic aviation hub in the Americas.
