United Airlines resumed its international service on April 30 between Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and São Paulo–Governador André Franco Montoro International Airport (GRU), marking a key step in strengthening its South American network. This relaunch not only responds to growing demand between the United States and Brazil, but also reflects a broader strategy to consolidate the airline’s presence in one of the region’s most important markets. In this context, the route enhances connectivity while providing more options for both business and leisure travelers.

Furthermore, the airline now operates the service on a daily basis, totaling seven weekly frequencies using Boeing 767-400ER aircraft. These planes are configured to accommodate 231 passengers across three classes: business, premium economy, and economy. This configuration allows United Airlines to better match capacity with diverse passenger needs, which is particularly important on long-haul routes. In addition, the schedule has been strategically designed: flight UA861 departs Washington at 10:30 p.m. and arrives in São Paulo at 9:30 a.m. the following day, while the return flight UA860 leaves São Paulo at 9:30 p.m. and lands in Washington at 6:25 a.m., enabling smooth connections on both ends.

Moreover, this operation positions Washington as the airline’s fourth U.S. gateway to Brazil, joining Newark (EWR), Houston (IAH), and Chicago (ORD), and bringing the total to 248 monthly frequencies across all routes. As a result, United Airlines strengthens its competitive position in the U.S.–Brazil market while expanding its overall connectivity. Ultimately, the resumption of this route not only increases flight availability but also supports trade and tourism flows between both countries, reinforcing its strategic importance within the airline’s global network.
