Volaris reports Q2 loss as soaring fuel prices weigh on results. Volaris reported a net loss of US$127 million in the second quarter of 2026 after a 70% year-over-year increase in jet fuel prices, which added approximately US$137 million to the airline’s operating costs. Despite the challenging environment, the carrier said the results were in line with expectations and highlighted its strong cash generation and improved liquidity.

To offset higher fuel costs, Volaris adjusted its capacity, route network, aircraft allocation, and pricing strategy, focusing on its most profitable markets. These measures helped ensure that every route operated during the quarter generated a positive contribution. Meanwhile, operating revenue increased 24% year over year, driven by strong demand and continued growth in the Mexico–United States market, which accounted for more than 40% of the airline’s total capacity.

The airline ended June with US$824 million in cash, cash equivalents, and short-term investments, while its altitude loyalty program reached 2.1 million active members. Volaris also continues returning Airbus A320neo aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney engines to service following mandatory inspections. Looking ahead, the airline expects a gradual improvement during the second half of 2026, supported by fleet recovery, disciplined capacity management, strong summer demand, and continued progress in its planned transaction with Viva.
