Colombia Waives Airport Fees for Earthquake Aid Flights. The Special Administrative Unit of Civil Aeronautics of Colombia (Aerocivil) issued Resolution No. 02680 on August 21, 2026, adopting immediate tariff relief measures to ensure a continuous and agile air bridge across the national territory. The decision follows the National Disaster Declaration triggered by the 7.4 magnitude earthquake registered on August 10.

Under this decree, the aviation authority fully waives aerodrome fees, runway usage fees, air navigation service charges, and airport taxes for all flight operations transporting medical supplies, food, rescue personnel, medical staff, and evacuees. Additionally, international aid flights and operations from organizations such as the UN will benefit from automated processing to prevent delays, while private airport operators have been formally urged to apply $0 rates for aircraft parking and usage fees.
Regarding aviation infrastructure, Aerocivil confirmed that following comprehensive technical inspections, runways and taxiways in the contingency zone across the Eje Cafetero and western region are fully cleared and operating under optimal safety conditions. However, the primary operational challenges remain within the boarding zones and passenger terminals. Technical crews are currently conducting repairs and structural assessments at Matecaña International Airport (Pereira), El Edén International Airport (Armenia), and Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport (Cali) due to damage sustained during the earthquake.

Finally, the aviation authority urged passengers and the general public not to travel to airport terminals without prior flight confirmation. Travelers are advised to monitor their flight status directly through the official customer service channels and websites of their respective airlines to avoid overcrowding at terminals currently undergoing physical repairs.
