Hawaiian Airlines Introduces Boeing 737-800 Aircraft to Boost Honolulu–Kahului Flights. Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines are taking the next step in evolving interisland travel across Hawaii by introducing Boeing 737-800 aircraft on the route connecting Honolulu (HNL) and Kahului (OGG). Operations are scheduled to launch on October 3, adding extra flights designed to boost passenger and cargo capacity between the airline’s two primary Hawaiian hubs.

The expanded service will initially offer three daily round-trip flights between Honolulu and Kahului, operated using Boeing 737-800 aircraft featuring Alaska Airlines livery. Integrating these jets will add needed seat and freight capacity on one of the most vital interisland corridors while maintaining the high frequency and reliability relied upon daily by residents, visitors, and local businesses.
Meanwhile, Hawaiian Airlines‘ fleet of Boeing 717 aircraft will continue to serve various interisland routes, operating approximately 140 daily flights. Passengers will be able to distinguish between Boeing 737 and Boeing 717 operations when searching and booking flights through the websites and mobile apps of both Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines.

This transition aligns with a long-term strategic plan to modernize Hawaiian Airlines‘ interisland network. The airline plans to retire its Boeing 717 fleet in 2028, moving toward an all-Boeing 737 operation flying under Hawaiian Airlines branding.
The newly deployed Boeing 737 aircraft will feature premium cabin interiors along with complimentary high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi, elevating the inflight experience for interisland travelers. This phase allows the carrier to combine enhanced capacity with a modernized fleet, reinforcing interisland service as a core pillar of its operations connecting local communities, families, and businesses across Hawaii.
