Latin America Air Traffic Surges in February 2026

Latin America Air Traffic Surges in February 2026. Air traffic across Latin America and the Caribbean reached 39.4 million passengers in February 2026, representing a 6.6% increase compared to the same month in 2025. This growth translates into an additional 2.44 million travelers and marks the strongest monthly performance since October 2024. Notably, the expansion was largely driven by regional demand, as two out of every three additional passengers traveled on domestic or intra-regional routes. In this context, domestic traffic rose by 5.4%, while international traffic within the region posted a solid 12.8% increase, highlighting a sustained recovery in short- and medium-haul travel.

Domestic markets, however, showed mixed results. Brazil and Colombia led the expansion, with 7.8 million and 2.55 million passengers, respectively. Brazil extended its growth streak to 18 consecutive months, reinforcing its position as the region’s largest market. Meanwhile, Colombia recorded its second positive month following declines in 2025. In contrast, other countries continued to face challenges: Chile saw a 4.6% drop, marking eight consecutive months of contraction, while Bolivia experienced a sharp 14% decline after a downturn in January. These variations underline an uneven recovery across the region’s domestic aviation markets.

In the international segment, growth proved more dynamic, with several markets posting double-digit increases, including Argentina, Brazil, Panama, and Colombia. Brazil reached 2.7 million international passengers, achieving its best February on record, while Colombia grew by 12.6% and Panama by 15.5%. The United States remained the largest international market, with 8.51 million passengers and a modest 1.6% increase. Furthermore, extra-regional traffic showed positive momentum, totaling 13.59 million passengers, up 6.3% and marking the best performance since June 2024. Overall, these figures confirm a steady and ongoing recovery of the aviation sector in Latin America and the Caribbean.
