Argentina and Uruguay complete air bridge digitalization with new biometric migration gates. The air bridge between Argentina and Uruguay has taken a major step toward a fully digital travel experience following the introduction of biometric immigration gates at Jorge Newbery Airfield for Uruguayan citizens. The initiative significantly reduces travel times and streamlines entry and exit procedures, strengthening one of the busiest and most strategic air corridors in the region between Buenos Aires and Montevideo.

The new biometric gates operate through automated systems that validate passenger identity using biometric recognition technology and electronic document scanning. Thanks to this technology, travelers can complete immigration procedures within seconds, reducing the need for traditional manual inspections and creating a faster, more convenient, and secure process.

The system is available for Uruguayan citizens over the age of 18 traveling with biometric passports or national identity cards equipped with electronic chips. With the implementation at Jorge Newbery Airfield, the digitalization of the air corridor is now complete, as the same system is already operational at Carrasco International Airport, further strengthening connectivity between the two countries.
The Buenos Aires–Montevideo air bridge is one of the region’s most active routes, widely used by business travelers, tourists, and passengers connecting to domestic and international destinations. The implementation of this technology represents a major step forward in airport modernization and migration security, resulting from coordinated efforts between airport operators and immigration authorities in both countries.

He also highlighted that the air bridge offers additional benefits for travelers, including promotions on airport shopping, parking, restaurants, duty free stores, and car rental services in both Argentina and Uruguay.
