Emirates begins construction of massive new engineering complex in Dubai.Emirates has officially started construction of its new US$5.1 billion engineering complex in Dubai. Located in Dubai South, the project is set to become the world’s most advanced and modern aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility, further strengthening Emirates’ and Dubai’s leadership in global aviation infrastructure and engineering capabilities. The new facility will be developed by China Railway Construction Corporation, while Artelia has been appointed as project consultant.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by several major aviation and government leaders, including Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline & Group; Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline; and Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation and Dubai South. During the event, Sheikh Ahmed stated that the investment represents a strategic step toward Dubai’s future-focused aviation ambitions and aligns directly with the emirate’s D33 Economic Agenda. He also highlighted that the facility will strengthen Emirates Engineering’s vertical integration strategy by bringing technical capabilities, infrastructure, and specialized services together under one roof.

The new engineering complex will cover 1.1 million square meters and will feature the world’s only hangar complex capable of simultaneously accommodating 28 widebody aircraft, in addition to two state-of-the-art paint hangars. Among its most notable features are the world’s largest aircraft hangar, the largest dedicated landing gear workshop, and more than 380,000 square meters of storage and logistics space. The project will also include sustainability initiatives targeting LEED Platinum certification, including rooftop solar panels across the entire complex. Construction is expected to be completed by mid-2030, with the facility initially supporting heavy maintenance operations transferred from the Emirates Engineering Centre at Dubai International Airport.
