Mexican low-cost carrier Viva Aerobus has officially launched its new international route connecting Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) in Mexico City with Rafael Núñez International Airport in Cartagena, Colombia. The new service strengthens air connectivity between the two countries and provides travelers with a direct link to one of Colombia’s most popular tourist destinations, while also offering access to Viva’s extensive network of more than 35 domestic and international routes from AIFA.

The new route is expected to boost tourism, business travel, and economic ties between Mexico and Colombia. Local authorities and tourism leaders highlighted the importance of the connection in attracting more Mexican visitors to Cartagena, known for its historic Walled City, San Felipe Castle, and Caribbean beaches. They also emphasized that the service will enhance commercial, cultural, and business exchanges between the two nations, while reinforcing Cartagena’s position as one of Latin America’s leading tourism hubs.

Flight VB1533, named in honor of Cartagena’s founding year of 1533, operates three times weekly. Flights depart Mexico City (AIFA) on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 7:25 p.m., arriving in Cartagena at 12:30 a.m. the following day. Return services leave Cartagena on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 1:30 a.m., arriving in Mexico City at 4:45 a.m. With this new route, Viva Aerobus continues expanding its presence in Colombia, where it has already carried more than one million passengers since launching operations in 2021, while supporting its international growth strategy with a fleet of 110 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft.
