Iberia to Launch Special Madrid–Salerno Service in November, Expanding Its Italian Network to 12 Destinations. Iberia has announced the addition of Salerno to its route network with a special operation scheduled for November 2026. The airline will operate daily flights between Madrid and the southern Italian city using Airbus A320 aircraft, offering nearly 10,800 seats throughout the month. With this new route, Italy will become home to Iberia’s largest destination network within Europe, growing to a total of 12 destinations.

  • ✈ Flight IB979 will depart Madrid at 11:40 a.m. and arrive in Salerno at 2:20 p.m.
  • ✈ While the return flight, IB980, will leave Salerno at 3:05 p.m. and land in Madrid at 5:55 p.m.

The Madrid–Salerno service will operate with one daily flight in each direction. The new destination joins Iberia’s year-round Italian network, which includes Bologna, Florence, Milan Linate, Milan Malpensa, Naples, Rome, Turin, and Venice, in addition to its seasonal summer services to Cagliari, Catania, Olbia, and Palermo.

Throughout 2026, Iberia will offer more than 2.85 million seats between Spain and Italy, representing a 1.8% increase compared with 2025 and reinforcing Italy’s importance within the airline’s European network. Víctor Moneo, Iberia’s Global Sales Director, described Italy as a strategic market for the carrier, noting that the addition of Salerno expands travel options while strengthening connectivity through the airline’s Madrid hub.

According to Iberia, the new route will provide passengers from all 12 Italian destinations with convenient connections through Madrid to the airline’s extensive long-haul network across Latin America and North America. The launch is part of Iberia’s Flight Plan 2030, a €6 billion investment strategy focused on expanding the airline’s route network, modernizing its fleet, and further enhancing the customer travel experience over the coming years.
