TAAG Transported Two Lions to Nigeria. TAAG Angola Airlines completed a specialized live animal transport operation by relocating two adult lions, weighing approximately 200 kilograms each, from Johannesburg, South Africa, to Lagos, Nigeria, with a layover at Luanda’s Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport. The operation required specific planning, documentation, containment systems, and continuous monitoring, along with the involvement of conservation specialists and compliance with international animal welfare standards.

The transport took place aboard a TAAG Cargo Boeing 737-800 Freighter, an aircraft designated for carrying general and special cargo, high-value goods, perishables, industrial equipment, and live animals. Throughout the journey, the lions remained under expert supervision to ensure their safety and well-being, while the cargo terminal at Luanda Airport facilitated the operation as a key transit hub between Southern and West Africa.

The final destination for the animals is a zoological facility in Lagos, where they will receive specialized veterinary care and remain under the supervision of trained personnel. The operation also reinforces Luanda’s role as a regional logistics hub, supporting the expansion of TAAG Cargo, which currently serves dedicated routes connecting Lagos, Brazzaville, Abidjan, Accra, Kinshasa, Nairobi, Johannesburg, and Lusaka.
