The nomination highlights Carrasco Airport’s pioneering deployment of NaviLens technology, a universal accessibility solution designed to help visually impaired travelers and international passengers navigate the terminal independently. The system relies on color-coded markers placed throughout the building that mobile devices can detect from up to 15 meters away without requiring focus or alignment. Through the free NaviLens GO application, users receive step-by-step audio directions and wayfinding assistance translated into 41 languages to eliminate linguistic barriers.

By becoming the first airport in the world to implement this technology across its facilities, Carrasco Airport has established itself as a global benchmark for innovation, sustainability, and inclusive tourism. The official winners will be announced on November 11 during the International Airport Summit in Roma, Italy, where top airport executives and aviation policy makers will gather from around the globe.
