To prepare for the expected surge in demand, American Airlines has carried out preventive maintenance on its fleet during the off-season, upgraded facilities for summer operations, and strengthened staffing levels at key airports. In addition, the airline has introduced major operational improvements designed to increase reliability across its network. At Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), American implemented a new 13-bank schedule that has already reduced delays, minimized missed connections, and improved baggage handling performance. The airline also introduced a revised transatlantic schedule at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), offering travelers more flexible afternoon departures while reducing congestion and improving on-time performance.

Furthermore, American Airlines highlighted the importance of its investments in schedule reliability, particularly through increased block times that allow flights to operate more consistently within planned schedules. According to the airline, April marked its best block-time performance among major U.S. carriers, helping position the company for a more dependable summer operation. Meanwhile, Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) is also expected to play a major role in the airline’s network this summer following operational adjustments approved by the Federal Aviation Administration. American projects more than 5.2 million passengers will travel through ORD during the season, representing an 11% increase compared to 2025 and a 48% rise over 2023 levels.
