According to Wang Hongyan, Vice President of Air China Cargo, the additional order represents a key strategic move aimed at optimizing the airline’s fleet structure and meeting the growing demand in the global air freight market. The company began introducing Airbus freighters at the end of 2023 and currently operates eight Airbus A330-200P2F aircraft. Once delivered, the A350F will complement the airline’s existing A330 converted freighters, enhancing efficiency across medium- and long-haul cargo routes.

Airbus highlighted that the A350F is designed to become the world’s most advanced freighter aircraft. The cargo jet offers a payload capacity of up to 111 tonnes and a range of 8,700 kilometers, making it ideal for long-haul international operations. Built with more than 70% advanced materials, the aircraft is significantly lighter than competing freighters. Powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines, the A350F delivers up to 20% lower fuel consumption and carbon emissions compared to previous-generation aircraft with similar payload capabilities. The aircraft is also fully compliant with ICAO’s 2027 CO₂ emissions standards and can operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with Airbus targeting 100% SAF capability by 2030. At the end of April 2026, the A350F program had accumulated 101 orders from 14 customers worldwide.
