United Airlines Seeks New Routes to Cartagena from Houston and Washington Dulles. The commercial aviation market in Colombia’s Caribbean region could see a significant boost as United Airlines has formally applied to expand its network to Cartagena, according to an official document issued by Colombia’s Civil Aviation Authority (Aeronáutica Civil). The application, supported by filings submitted in May 2026, outlines the carrier’s plans to strengthen air connectivity between the United States and one of Colombia’s most important tourism and business destinations.

Under the proposal, United Airlines intends to launch two new international routes to Cartagena’s Rafael Núñez International Airport. The first would connect the city with the airline’s major hub at Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), while the second would establish nonstop service from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). Both routes would operate with seven weekly frequencies, providing daily service for leisure and business travelers.

The filing indicates that the services would be operated using Boeing 737 aircraft and would include requests for up to fourth-freedom traffic rights, allowing the transportation of passengers, cargo, and mail between the United States and Colombia. If approved, the new routes would further strengthen Cartagena’s position as a key tourism and economic gateway in the Caribbean region while enhancing commercial ties and travel opportunities between both countries.
