A primary focus of the conference was the impact of geopolitics and evolving international regulations on flight operations. Key topics included international sanctions, inter-country cooperation in an increasingly fragmented landscape, and the reach of Europe’s EU261 passenger rights legislation. Additionally, specialists examined key competitiveness factors, including United States tariffs and trade policies, tax structures in Brazil, and the regional implementation of the Cape Town Convention across Latin America.

Emerging aviation technology also featured prominently on the agenda. Discussions covered the regulatory framework for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) spearheaded by the FAA, drone integration in cargo transport, cross-border e-commerce, and legal risks associated with artificial intelligence. Participants also reviewed real-world case studies involving disruptive passengers, crisis management, and legal liability stemming from automated tools.

Peter Cerdá, CEO of ALTA, emphasized that regulation can serve as either a catalyst for growth or a hindrance to the sector. He noted that nearly 480 million passengers traveled throughout Latin America and the Caribbean in 2025, underscoring the region’s immense market potential. In light of this, he stressed the importance of establishing balanced, predictable regulatory frameworks to attract investment, rebuild connectivity, and foster regional aviation growth.
